Our Latest Exhibit: FUNCHICKEN: DREAM RESIDUE

Galactic Panther Art Gallery unleashes FUNCHICKEN: DREAM RESIDUE, a blast of collaborative chaos by artists Mark Todd and Esther Pearl Watson. This exhibition drops viewers straight into the warped, neon-soaked brain of Funchicken: a DIY universe fueled by zines, copy-machine mutations, 80s weirdness, and unapologetic absurdity.

The artists have traveled from California to install the show and to attend the opening on Friday, January 16, 6:00 to 10:00 PM at Galactic Panther, 1303 King Street, Alexandria, Virginia. The opening is free to the public and will feature live music and a smorgasbord of catered charcuterie. Please bring your friends and family for a unique and memorable time at Old Town's most eclectic art gallery.

Funchicken isn’t a side project—it’s a creative free-for-all. Todd and Watson ditch the rules of their individual practices to experiment with limited-edition prints, designer toys, wearables, and paintings that feel fast, handmade, and slightly unhinged. Think cut-and-paste logic, lo-fi aesthetics, and humor that doesn’t ask permission.

On their own, both artists are heavy hitters. Esther Pearl Watson exhibits internationally and publishes comics with Fantagraphics Books. Mark Todd co-owns and curates HeyThere Projects, a gallery and gift shop planted in the desert of Joshua Tree, California. Together, they crank the volume higher—turning collaboration into collision.

Featured Exhibit: Brave New World

Galactic Panther is thrilled to present Brave New World – Uropia Infectium, an electrifying exhibition by Brussels-based artist Silio Durt. The artist’s vibrant silkscreen prints transform the gallery into a kinetic landscape of chaos, energy, and mutation.

Emerging from the heart of UROCHROME, Durt’s Brussels-based creative laboratory, Brave New World presents a striking selection of silkscreen prints born from his ongoing project Uropia Infectium. Each piece begins as an original drawing—then undergoes a metamorphosis through layers of reworking, cutting, and chemical alchemy until it becomes something entirely new: a print pulsing with cryptogenic themes and saturated color.

Through his process—equal parts destruction and rebirth—Durt channels the industrial energy of screen printing into a form of visual combustion.

A Lens on Punk Rock History — When the DC punk scene roared in the 90s, Antonia Tricarico was there - camera in hand, immortalizing the sound, the sweat, and the fight against the establishment. From Fugazi to Branch Manager, and from underground basements to legendary stages, her photographs captured it all - without the gloss, without the patronizing lens, just raw honesty.

Her work gave female performers the spotlight they deserved, documenting them with authenticity at a time when media often failed them. The result? Images that pulse with rebellion, energy, and truth.

Featured Exhibit: PORTRAIT OF NIGERIA

Kelani Fatai grew up in the bustling streets of Lagos, drawing from the age of six. Now, he’s exhibited worldwide and painted the cover of Matriarchy, the book by Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles—featured by Oprah’s Book Club. His work is a love letter to Black beauty, often blending Victorian style with modern richness and boldness.

Samuel Ukpahi (Foreversammy) is making his U.S. debut. Born in Northern Nigeria and self-taught in oils, he paints with a deep sense of purpose. Each work reflects his spiritual and emotional evolution—a journey shaped by movement, adversity, and unwavering resilience. “Art isn’t what we see,” Ukpahi says. “It’s who we are.”

Featured Exhibit: SING INTO MY MOUTH by Ravi Zupa

Ravi Zupa considers books the best way to experience art. He has spent decades studying books about the art, mythology, religion, and history of cultures from across geography and time. Entirely self-taught, Zupa looks to works by German Renaissance printmakers, Flemish primitives, abstract expressionists, Japanese woodblock artists, and Mughal painters for inspiration. He also frequently incorporates religious iconography from Europe, Asia, and Pre-Columbian Latin America with revolutionary propaganda from around the world. With a distaste for ironic art or the thoughtless appropriation of culture, he integrates seemingly unrelated images in search of something universal. Zupa does not create any of his art digitally; everything comes from his own hand.

Featured Exhibit: Raw Visions

RAW VISIONS features well over 100 works of art by ten artists, seven of which are new to galactic panther. Anthony Coleman is a self-taught, non-verbal, specially abled artist from Philadelphia. Although he is easily labeled as an outsider & is featured in this year's Outsider Art Fair in NYC, he has achieved great success with his vividly colored drawings inspired by pop culture and graffiti. His prolific output has him celebrated in many exhibitions & publications including ARTFORUM. He works with his “coach” Andrew Jeffrey Wright who collaborated on some of the drawings featured in the exhibit. Coleman’s style of pushing popular imagery into something uniquely his is unmistakable.
